There was plenty of action on day three of the competition at the Burnett Bowls Club with the U18 Open Pairs, U15 Open Pairs and U18 Open Fours titles all on the line.

This year’s competition saw one pairing walk away with two out of the three titles up for grabs, the dynamic duo of Jessie Cottell and Nick Cahill picked up a gold for their efforts in both the U18 Pairs and in the U18 Open Fours with fellow teammates Shervawn Wilson and Rebecca Rixon who defeated Ty Jesberg, Isabella Lawson, Brittanny Wiley, Jake Rynne 25-10 in the fours final.

Cottell and Cahill went from strength to strength in the U18 Pairs sectional play, the pair were quick to make their mark on the game defeating Coen Nicholls & Joshua Collier 24-8, they followed it up with a 20-5 win over Franzi Strasser & Kain Wallis.

They then pulled off a narrow 17-15 victory over Jake Rynne & Kane Nelson in the semis to line themselves up a date in the final against Isabella Lawson & Shervawn Wilson who had defeated Rebecca Rixon & Shane White 20-13 in the other leg of the semi.

Lawson and Wilson put up a good fight in the final round but ultimately Cottell and Cahill proved to be too much of an immovable force and walked away from the 19-11 encounter as victors.

In the bronze medal playoff, Rynne & Nelson thwarted Rixon & White’s attempt to take third place with a 21-11 win.

In the U15 pairs, Samuel Collier & Ty Jesberg managed to pull off a title win following a shaky start with a first-round defeat in the sectional play against Kyandra Kelly & Zayah Morgan which finished 17-9.

Despite a setback in the first round the boys managed to claw their way back with two successive wins to set themselves up for a semi-final battle against Scott Dittman & Clancy Biggar who looked to be the favourites after three straight wins in the sectional rounds, but Collier and Jesberg threw a spanner in the works with a huge 31-5 win.

The final saw the pairing take on Bradley Flegler & Shane Rideout in a tight game which saw skip Jesberg & Collier squeeze over the line to take home gold with a 17-15 triumph.

In the bronze playoff, Corey Marshall & John Hammond trumped Dittman & Biggar 21-10 to finish third.

Day four of the competition kicks off at Across the Waves Bowls Club from 8.30 am, the U18 Triples begin with knockout rounds, followed by the semi-final and grand final.
