High Performance

Bowls Queensland’s High Performance Program has been established to support and further the development of athletes and coaches across the state.  Its aim is to create a clear and trusting relationships between Bowls Queensland and districts, clubs and individuals.

The program will also endeavour to create a clear pathway from social to elite bowls.  However, in order to give bowlers the chance to reach the highest level possible, we need to look to the future and develop a proactive attitude to problem solving.  With this approach we will be able to deal with any unexpected situations presented to us.

Cooperation at all levels, from all organisations, is the only way that bowls in Queensland can reach its potential and remain competitive with other states.  Communication and support are key pillars of this cooperation and will determine the success of this program.

The importance of the team must always be emphasised, regardless of the discipline you are playing in or at what level you are representing.  Every bowler belongs to a team and must participate as a member of  that team.  It is crucial that all players communicate and contribute equally to their team.  Players in sides have to maintain various roles and responsibilities at any level of bowls.

While the final result is a key objective and should be focused on in competition, it should be considered within the greater responsibilities of a team.

Bowls should always be enjoyable, with competitive success a by-product of developing friendships and teamwork.

Every bowling team should be working towards a set goal with equal passion, enthusiasm and desire from each member.  Only when every player is putting in the effort and developing their skills can a team hope to be successful.

A good start is to keep the following attributes in mind when training and playing bowls:

Preparation  —  Respect  —  Integrity  —  Dedication  —  Excellence
