Targeting Schools

Lawn bowls is one of Queensland’s most popular sports and is perfectly suited as a school sport. There are no limitations as to who can play. Gender, physical fitness or disabilities are not an obstacle for any students wishing to play bowls as a school or competitive sport.

By implementing basic programs and targeting specific areas, bowls clubs can have successful and mutually beneficial primary and high school bowls programs. Once your club has these programs successfully up and running you will hopefully see an increase in junior membership which in turn will strengthen your club for the future.

Just remember the important part …… MAKE IT FUN

Once again please do not hesitate to contact the Bowls Queensland Development Team should you have any further questions or require more information or support for your club’s school programs.

Sporting Schools

Sporting Schools is a National Programme available to all Australian Primary Schools across all Australian communities. Schools are a crucial connection between children and their local community organisations.

Sporting Schools have partnered with 32 key National Sporting Organisations (NSO’s) to help deliver a quality Sporting Schools experience in which Lawns Bowls is a partner.

The program will engage more children in more sport based activities within schools and help children foster a lifelong interest in sport, gain a healthier mind and body, have fun and learn sport activities and games in a safe environment.

Its objective is to develop in school-aged children a love of physical activity that will encourage them to play for life. All activities are game-based and generate a safe, inclusive and challenging environment, which helps children develop skills while having fun.

Sporting Schools is based on the Playing for Life philosophy which encourages children to have fun by focussing on skills not drills, aiming to provide children with positive sporting experiences to foster a lifelong interest in sport. Sporting Schools utilises quality club delivered and teacher supported activities.

Funding is available to schools to engage quality coaches to deliver the sporting programmes developed by the partners (Lawn Bowls)of Sporting Schools. These activities can be delivered to children before, during and after school for the conversion of their interest into club based settings.

Sporting Schools’ practical, self-guided programmes aims to nurture this relationship and help get children active in local sporting organisations.
