Last chance saloon

Braidan Leese has one last chance to go for gold at Queensland’s 2014 Junior State Championships. Braidan Leese will be a man on a mission when he takes on defending champion Brendan Wilson in the singles semifinals at Musgrave Hill Bowls Club tomorrow morning.
The 17-year-old, who is yet to strike gold at this year’s Junior State Championships, is determined to go out with a bang, with the singles his last chance at a title.
Despite reaching two out of three finals so far, Leese has failed to make it pay, going down in the Pairs and Fours.
But he was back in top form today, taking out his singles section with three double-digit wins, to set up a quarterfinal clash with Jacob Nelson.
Nelson put a tougher fight than Leese’s previous opponents, but he couldn’t overcome the Australian U18 rep, going down 21-16.
The win sends Leese through for a semifinal showdown with Tweed Heads star Wilson, who took the 2013 championships by storm with title wins in the singles and triples.
He claimed an impressive scalp en route to this year’s final, beating Pairs champ Cohen Litfin 21-17 in Round 2.
In the second semi Nathan Wilson will take on Jesse Turnbull, following an impressive quarterfinal win over Pairs champion Joel Andersen, 21-18.
Turnbull had a battle on his hands to reach the semis, edging past Daniel Keogh in their quarterfinal clash, 21-20.
Nelson and North through to U15 final
Meanwhile in the boys under-15 Singles, pint-size battler Kane Nelson will take on South Tweed young gun Max North for a shot at the singles crown at Musgrave Hill.
Nelson may look cute, but he proved he has that killer instinct during his post-sectional clash with Burnett’s Nicky Cahill, clocking up impressive double-digit win over his rival, 21-9.
North took out a second Burnett challenger, Justin Todd, 21-12, to reach tomorrow’s title match.
In the second semi, two champions will go head-to-head, with Jake Rynne taking on Charles Clarke for a final berth.
Rynne already has two titles at this year’s championships, notching up the open pairs and open fours crowns during the week.
Clarke is also a winner, claiming the U15 pairs title on Monday.
Action kicks off at Musgrave Hill Bowls Club at 9am tomorrow.
