All roads lead to Bribie

A fierce face-off for the group winners as they head to Bribie island for the 2016 State Pennant Finals. (Pictured left: Bribie Island Bowls Club chairman Peter Patrikeos, Moreton Bay Regional Councillor Brooke Savige, Bribie Island bowls coordinator Mick Cherry and BQ chairman Peter Williamson welcome all Division One finalists and supporters to Bribie Island for the 2016 State Pennant Finals.)

The pressure is on Queensland’s eight Division One group winners to contain their nerves and perform at their best as they head to Bribie Island Bowls Club this weekend to “fight for the flag!”
There is only one defending champion in the draw, Broadbeach women, as the Broadbeach men were defeated in the Gold Coast Tweed district final by Club Helensvale (who went on to win the Group 1 final).
The prestigious Division 1 State Pennant final (Nov 26-27) is conducted by Bowls Queensland and supported by Bribie Island Bowls Club and Moreton Bay Regional Council.
The State Final will be contested by a total of 15 clubs from around the state, with Mackay’s Souths Suburban the only club to win dual representative honours, in both the men’s and women’s final.
In fact, the Souths Suburban women have taken home the flag on three previous occasions (2009, 2006, 2005).
In the men’s competition, Gold Coast powerhouse Club Helensvale will be keen to claim a fresh win, their last State Pennant title coming back in 2009 (and three previous occasions prior, in 2007, 2006 and 2004).
Helensvale has given Nathan Rice, Andrew Howie and Adam White skip duties to guide their team to a fifth victory.
