Elite bowler Brett Wilkie from Club Helensvale is the new CEO of Bowls Queensland, officially appointed by the BQ Board last week.

Wilkie hopes his vast experience in the sport of lawn bowls, both as a player and administrator from grassroots through to elite will enable him to succeed in his new role.

“I am pleased to accept this new exciting role, I look forward to working with Bowls QLD to help develop, nurture and promote our great game in QLD,” Wilkie said.

“My passion for the sport and desire to see it grow makes me very keen to work with the Board and stakeholders of Bowls QLD for many years to come.”

Wilkie was born in Ballarat Victoria and introduced to the game of Lawn Bowls and Indoor Bias Bowls at an early age, starting to play junior competitions from the age of 11.

He was chosen to represent QLD for the first time against NSW in a Test Series during 2001 and since then he has gone on to play more than 200 games.  

Brett worked as a Bowls Development Manager at Club Helensvale and in 2005 he became a part of the Premier League QLD Board, taking on the roles of Chairman, Secretary and Assistant Secretary including into this year.

 

Brett also took on the coordinator’s role with the Professional Bowls Association Australia from 2007 – 2016.

Brett will stand down from many of his recent roles to concentrate on the business of BQ.

He officially starts in his new role on September 26.
