Victorians snatch Mixed Pairs
2013 Gold Coast Winter Carnival (July 4-20) A dynamic duo from Victoria have claimed first blood in the 2013 Gold Coast Tweed Winter Bowls Carnival.
Paul Dorgan and Judy Nardella are Mixed Pairs champions, beating Tasmania’s Chris McKibben and Maureen Zoon in a thrilling final 17-16.
It’s a prestigious win for the Victorians, beating 80 other mixed pairs from around Australia to the prize and bragging rights.
The Open and Over 60s Pairs competition is currently underway, with the quarter and semi finals played today and the finals tomorrow (Thursday July 11).
Local Musgrave Hill boys Glen Bailey and Shannon Gittoes have bagged themselves a place in the Open Pairs final against WA’s Erron Martin and Phil Brandon.
The Over 60s Pairs finalists will be decided by close of play today.
Also tomorrow is the first day of Mixed Triples play, at Paradise Point, Musgrave Hill and Twin Towns Services Bowls Clubs.
There are 40 triples teams entered, with post sectionals on Friday (July 12) and semi finals and final on Saturday (July13) at Musgrave Hill.
The Carnival Fours is due to be played from Sunday July 14 – Tuesday July 16, at Paradise Point, Musgrave Hill, Broadbeach and Tweed Heads Bowls Clubs, with 52 teams entered.
Post sectional play will be on Monday (July 15) at Broadbeach, followed up by the semi final and finals action also at Broadbeach on Tuesday (July 16).
The prestige tournament, which fields more than 1000 players each year, will wind up with Men’s Open and Restricted Singles, from Wednesday July 17 – Saturday July 20.
