West Toowoomba edge out Bribie Island at State Pennant Finals Jo Worsley was the star performer in West Toowoomba’s heart-stopping State Pennants win over Bribie Island this morning.

Worsley was the only T’ba skip to win her rink, defeating Veronica McDermott, 24-19.

But more importantly, her five-shot pick-up in the dying ends edged Toowoomba over the line for a pivotal 57-56 round one win.

Ferny Grove had a much easier time of it in their clash with North Mackay, beating the northerners comfortably, 72-48.

Mackay’s Ester Regan played her part, defeating Ferny Grove’s star skip, Sue Bond, 18-13.

But teammates Bev Benson and Bev Svenson couldn’t keep up their end of the bargain, going down 31-13 and 28-17 respectively.

In Section 2, Bargara and Marlin Coast came through round one unscathed.

Bargara clocked up a 13-shot win over Hervey Bay, 67-53…Gail Crompton and Jessie Cannon both winning their rinks, while Judy Everett held Hervey Bay’s Elizabeth Humphreys to a draw, 20-20.

Marlin Coast had a much tighter win, downing Brisbane side Algester by just three shots, 55-52.

Algester’s Yvonne Taylor finished strong, taking an eight-shot win over Shirley Sampson, 24-16.

But Evelyn Herwig and Lee Mikic were just too good for Taylor’s teammates, racking up 18-12 and 21-16 wins respectively.
