Pine Rivers and Ferny Grove take on North Toowoomba and Bargara for State Pennant titles There are more than titles at stake at Tweed Heads Bowls Club this afternoon, with pride on the line as country clubs take on their city rivals in the State Pennant Finals.

North Toowoomba’s Bushrangers will face the mighty Pine Rivers Pirates in the men’s final, after the T’ba boys maintained their unbeaten record in this morning round-three clash.

The Bushies were under the pump for a while, but they finished strong to beat Gladstone, 54-51.

Pine Rivers, meanwhile, had another tough game, battling to a draw in their Section 2 clash with Souths Suburban, 58-58.

Luckily for the Pirates they were given a helping hand into the final by Brisbane underdogs Indooroopilly, who rallied in round three for a 62-59 win over powerhouse club Helensvale.

Club Kawana beat Townsville Suburban 68-57, but neither club was really in the hunt for a final spot.

In the women’s comp, Ferny Grove maintained their unbeaten record to reach the state final.

After falling behind in the early ends, the Ferny Grove girls fought back for a three-rink win over Bribie Island, 67-48.

On the opposite side of the draw, Bargara were beaten by the previously winless Algester, 62-48, and had to await the outcome of Marlin Coast’s clash with Hervey Bay to see if they made the final.

Luckily for Bargara, Marlin Coast clocked up a five-shot victory over Hervey Bay, 55-50, sending the Bargara side through to the title decider.

The finals have just kicked off at Tweed Heads Bowls Club (1pm), where players and spectators are hoping the forecast rain stays away for another few hours.
