Second Test blues for Maroons

by admin on January 29, 2014

Queensland slip to defeats in Port Macquarie. The second test matches against New South Wales brought very little good news from south of the border.

Brett Wilkie and his side came off second best to Antony Sheriff’s, losing 24-14, as Rice suffered a successive defeat, 21-16 to Garvey. Fantini’s outfit lost 13-25 to give NSW an overall 70-43 victory.

After yesterday’s draw, Queensland will be searching for their first test win of the series in this afternoon’s final game.

Queensland’s under 25 Men had mixed results, Des Cann Jnr lost his singles match, 31-21, and the triples went down 27-17. But Copeland and Cross stopped the rot with an 18-17 win in the pairs.

With the series tied at 1-1 this afternoon’s matches will be high-pressured.

Queensland Women will be looking to move on quickly from this morning’s display.

Louise Witton’s ladies took their match, 15-12, as Lynsey Clarke’s battled out an 18-18 tie. But unfortunately Rosie Lovelock’s team were on the wrong end of a 25-13 scoreline, giving NSW a 55-46 victory.

A brave performance by our under 25’s wasn’t enough to take victory, going down two rinks to one. April Wilson bravely fought Noronha but lost 31-18, while Styles and Anderson were undone 12-27. The Triples team of Roberts, Rixon and Millerick gave the Queenslanders something to smile about with a 33-24 victory.

Both Women’s teams are 2-0- down in their series, but will aim to come back this afternoon in their third and final games.
