Cunningham in cruise control

As the key ninth round approaches the big hitters are well in their stride as early tournament favourites continue on unbeaten streaks.

Cunningham, 68-50, and Gateway, 73-55, picked up more points and drive towards a heavyweight showdown in Round 9.

Sunshine Coast stay third with a vital 77-47 victory over Gold Coast Tweed B, but Fraser Coast lost ground with a surprise loss to Condamine, 66-58.

Central Qld took care of Leichhardt 85-53 while wooden spooners elect, Burnett, lost to Brisbane 79-43, as the city team kept the pressure on the leading group.

Gold Coast Tweed A’s narrow win over Brisbane North, 57-56 will keep them top of the ladder as Bundaberg failed to make up the shot difference, beating a resilient Southern Downs 48-43.

Another close match saw lowly Downs outgun Mackay, 56-55, in an afternoon where drama was rife.

Tropical Far North Qld gained their first win in four through beating Caboololture, 72-63.

Maranoa/Warrego’s improvement hasn’t yet seen any marks in the point’s column, but 54-83 defeat to North West Queensland, may have seen their chance evaporate.
