“I choked,” said Brown after being 21-20 up in the Men’s Singles.
“I was spraying my bowls everywhere towards the end.”
It appears the Wynnum Manly star holds an Indian sign over Brown, as teenager Gosley again overcame the powerhouse Pirate.
“He’s beaten me in the last three meetings,” confessed Brown, who was honest in his assessment of his performance.
Australian rep Casey was generous in his shock defeat to former Queensland rep, Twist.
“Jeff was the more consistent bowler, I’ve no complaints there.”
“I just couldn’t play my natural game. It was windy, but we all play with that.”
Elsewhere in today’s post-sectional, the results had more predictability about them.
Sean Baker faced Laidley’s Craig Zeibel, who breezed through his section in fine form. But the 2008 winner was steady in unpicking Zeibel, and came home 25-18.
Pre-tournament front runners, Brett Wilkie and Ryan Bester also made the cut. Wiz had quite a tussle with Paul O’Brien but squeezed over the line, 25-24.
Bester only just had an easier ride. The Broadbeach star beating Burleigh’s Gary Pearson 25-22.
Eric Copeland played very well to knock over Keith Lindsay, 25-12.
Jamie Andersen, who got his hands on the tropy in 2010, is still in the running to lift it again.
Kel Emerton stood in Anderson’s way but his resistance not enough to stop a 25-16 victory for the man from Capalaba.
Helensvale’s Anthony Fantini gave the Hawks another presence in the next round after he defeated Joey Mills 25-18.
Tomorrow the heats is on, Baker will face current title holder Wilkie while today’s surprise winners will come toe-to-toe. Copeland will have a busy morning lining up against Bester, while Anderson and Fantini will tough it out.
Games commence at 9am at Mermaid Beach.
