Lockyer boys are off to a flying start
The Secondary All Schools Cup is underway with the Lockyer team showing promise early in the competition. The Lockyer valley boys, Jeffery Palmer and Angus Evans have blitzed the first round of the Secondary All Schools Cup Challenge today.
The duo are fairly new to the sport only playing in a handful of school and club events, but you couldn’t tell from the way they played in round one.
Winning straight sets of nine ends against Ayr State High School, 18-5, 11-7 with a margin of 17, they are looking forward to their second game in round three.
“Hopefully we can keep it going,” Evans said.
Team manager and teacher at Lockyer District State High, Nick Clarry said they are looking to win but need to keep up consistent play.
With the boys having a bye in round two, and Clarry being an experienced bowler himself, they took the time to practice ahead of round three.
“We’ve been practicing in the break, so if they can be competitive with me, they’ll play well next round,” Clarry said.
The Lockyer duo will face Siena Catholic College in round three, and are wary of the strength of that team.
“The skip on that team is very good, so we think they’ll be tough competition,” Clarry said.
Round three is currently underway at Pine Rivers Memorial Bowls Club.
