Qldrs Clarke and Girdler score at #AusOpenGC
The Australian Open is rolling along with the men’s and women’s pairs sectional qualifiers now confirmed Queenslanders Lynsey Clarke and Paul Girdler have withstood a challenging day of pairs competition to win their sectionals and move on to the next level.
Australian captain Clarke and her fellow Jackaroo teammate Kelsey Cottrell took a step closer to regaining the trophy they last held aloft in 2013, while Tweed Heads Bowls Coordinator Paul Girdler and his partner, New Zealand singles representative Shannon McIlroy, also found themselves in the winner’s circle.
They will take part in the pairs knockout rounds on Friday, June 19.
In other women’s games held today, some big names like Cabramatta golden girls Kay Moran and Karen Murphy (pictured) also secured spots in the knock out rounds, while others who were expected to win, including New Zealand’s Blackjack world champions Val Smith and Jo Edwards, were sent packing.
