Moreton Bay Region Mayor Allan Sutherland said it was really exciting to welcome State Pennant north again, after the last four years being hosted at the southern reaches of BQ, at Tweed Heads.

“I can’t think of a better location than the Bribie Island Bowls Club and the Moreton Bay Region to bring the State Pennant titles north again,” Mayor Sutherland said.
“Holding the State Pennant Finals on Bribie Island is a win for both competitors and the local community, with the two-day event to deliver a boost to the island’s economy and businesses.”

The State Pennant finals weekend attracts more than 200 competitors across the men’s and women’s finals, as well as easily that number again in support crew, including organisers, officials, partners, and spectators.

Bowls Queensland Chairman John Dawson said Bribie Island Bowls Club was chosen for 2015 State Pennant for the top standard of the greens and the availability of quality accommodation on Bribie Island.
“With four well maintained greens, the Bribie Island Bowls Club is a natural choice as the venue for a state-wide competition of the importance of the Division One State Pennant finals,” Mr Dawson said.

Bribie Island Bowls Club has recently undergone a $700,000 refurbishment with the addition of a new bowlers’ lounge and office.
“After the completion of stage one of a significant renovation, we’re very pleased to have been chosen as the venue for the 2015 State Pennant finals,” Club Chairman Peter Patrikeos said.
“It’s a great opportunity to show the rest of Queensland what the Bribie Island Bowls Club has achieved in terms of building new infrastructure and membership.”
Mayor Sutherland said securing the 2015 State Pennant finals for Bribie Island and the Caboolture district was part of Council’s strategy to attract state and national championships and other major sporting carnivals to the Moreton Bay Region.

“The State Pennant finals coup highlights council’s partnership with Sport Management Australia to maximise the use of the region’s sporting facilities and drive additional tourism,” the Mayor said.

“Data from Tourism Research Australia demonstrates visiting spectators, players and administrators spend more than $240 a day with local businesses and that’s good for region’s economy.”
