Bowls Super Challenge rocks Musgrave Hill
Honours go to Paradise Point (Men’s GOLD), Tweed Heads (Women’s GOLD), Ferny Grove (Men’s SILVER), Bramble Bay (Women’s SILVER), Pacific Paradise (Men’s BRONZE), The Albert (Gympie) (Women’s BRONZE). It was a colourful wonderful weekend of bowls at Musgrave Hill Bowls Club.
The predicted rain didn’t eventuate but the humidity and wind made conditions challenging.
In the Men’s GOLD, top five to go through to finals weekend were Wellington Point, Musgrave Hill, Tweed Heads, Algester Sports and Paradise Point, the win to Paradise Point.
In the Women’s GOLD, top three were Coolum Beach and Caloundra to face defending champs Tweed Heads in the final, Tweed Heads going back to back.
In Men’s SILVER, Ferny Grove played Red Hill for a finals showdown against Toombul, Ferny Grove prevailing.
In Women’s SILVER, top four to go through to finals weekend were Cleveland, Bramble Bay, Club Kawana and Paradise Point, Cleveland looking for a back-to-back win, but it was Bramble Bay who won the big money.
In Men’s BRONZE, Pacific Paradise (pictured), Paradise Point, Solander Lake, Red Hill, Wynnum, two teams from Scarborough and Mooloolaba did battle, with Pacific Paradise taking line honours.
In Women’s BRONZE, Musgrave Hill, Paradise Point, The Albert (Gympie), Palmwoods, Nambour, Ferny Grove, Corinda and Caloundra lined up on the starting blocks, but it was The (Mighty!) Albert which finished strongest.
Bowls Super Challenge chairman Des Wilson said more than $200,000 worth of prize money would be handed out this year.
“We will think about running the comp later in the year in 2017, so teams can play both Premier League and Super Challenge, numbers were down a bit this year, but it’s still been a marvellous competition, very happy.”
