Secondary Schools Cup is back!

by admin on February 16, 2017

Bowls Queensland announced the Secondary Schools Cup will be returning and open to secondary school students under the age of 19. (Pictured left: 2015 Winners Helensvale State High’s Shane White and Tahlia Camilleri.)
Schools will get a chance to see who is top dog on the green this year with the reintroduction of the Secondary Schools Cup Competition which should provide some friendly inter-school rivalries.

BQ has restarted the programme with the hopes of enticing more players into the sport, teams will consist of Pairs (2 girls, 2 boys, or a mixed team) who have not turned 19 on or before December 31, 2017, and must feature at least one non-affiliated player.

Secondary Schools and Bowls Clubs are encouraged to align together to host an intra-school playoff (to be completed by 16th June) who will then proceed to an inter-school Bowls District Playoff (to be completed by 28th July).

The competition will be played across QLD with winners advancing through their local Districts to a State Final at Club Pine Rivers September 16-17.

It is recommended for clubs/schools to organise a coaching program for the students prior to the competition, followed by the number of weeks needed to conduct the competition to gain a club/school representative team.

Bowls Australia will also be providing BQ Regional Bowls Managers (RBMs) to assist clubs and schools with coordinating their local and District play off.
