It was a full day of bowls in hot conditions at Pelican Waters Bowls Club today as the 2017 State Junior Championships kicked off.
The first discipline to be decided will be the Fours.
In sectional play on the opening day, two teams are to be decided to go head to head in the final on Tuesday at 12.30pm at Caloundra Bowls Club.
The first to go through was the winner of Section 3, Burnett Juniors skip Brinley Cottle’s team of Breeanna Pegg, Hannah Ogden and Tegan Wilson.
It’s lead Breeanna’s first State Championships and she’s made her first State Final.
“She took up bowls through the school and won the school comp and decided she’d like to play more,” dad Gavin Pegg said.
“She’s tried netball and hockey but it’s bowls that appealed.”
Gavin and brother Damon are mad for hockey themselves but very proud of Breeanna’s success so far on the green.
The Cottle rink will go up against the winner of the Section 1 and 2 semi-final, currently underway at Pelican Waters.
Section 1 winner was Mitchell Weier, Jessie Cottell, Zac Adams and skip Nick Cahill.
They are fighting for survival against an in-form Indi Conlan, playing with Rebecca Rixon, Mitchell Goode and Jayden Cottell.
