Queensland’s Senior Sides announced
Bowls Queensland has announced the state’s roster for the Australian Senior Sides Championships. Bowls Queensland has announced the state’s roster for the Australian Senior Sides Championships which will kick off at Moonta Bowls Club and Wallaroo Bowls Club, South Australia in mid-October (Oct, 15-18).
The 24 person squad consists of 12 men & 12 women, the new squad will feature four debutants for the Over-60s side.
Club Kawana’s Merril Ahern has been given her first opportunity to represent the Queensland women, while James Wise (Enoggera), Alan Howard (Bramble Bay) and Tugun’s Scott Chamberlain will don the men’s maroon attire for their first time.
Three open state team players will join the debutants in the senior sides for their first time in the Over-60s sides, Mareeba Memorial’s Sue Brady along with Brenda Thompson (Swifts) and John Bain (Tweed Heads) will all play their first game as part of an Over-60s side.
Broadbeach’s Sue McKenzie will also make her return to the senior sides squad for the first time since 2015.
The selectors hope the new line up will enable Queensland to launch a successful campaign in South Australia, the selectors are eager for the women to secure their fourth straight win of championships and for the men to break their six-year drought which has plagued them since their last win in 2011.
The Australian Senior Sides Championships is the biggest show in Over-60s bowls runs over four action-packed days, Australia’s top over-60 players will battle it out for bowling glory and national bragging rights in separate men’s and women’s championships.
Queensland will take on teams from South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania, Australian Capital Territory & the Northern Territory.
