2019 Junior State Championships – U18 Triples

A welcome breeze blew across the green at Caloundra’s The Waves Bowls Club on the third day of the Junior State championships. It was all about the triples competition today and teams came out firing.

Jack Davies (Bargara), Kane Nelson (Belmont Serv) and Nick Cahill (Bargara), all fresh off a fours gold didn’t lose step in the opening round winning 41-4. Meanwhile their fourth member Sean Gillis (Jindalee), along with Mitch Doyle (Hamilton) and Caleb Bowles (Swifts)  looked formidable in their opening, winning 27-9 against Hannah Ogden (Burnett), Corey Marshall (Helensvale), Caysee Wilson (Kawana).

The thrilling match between Cahill and Jake Rynne’s (North Toowoomba) team of Ty Jessberg (Longreach) and John Hammond (Dalby) nearly finished across the road with Cahill hitting the jack out of the green near the final ends. Though it wasn’t enough with Rynne taking a comfortable win 19-10, going to the semi-finals against his pairs partner Kira Bourke (Tweed Heads), Breanna Pegg (Burnett) and Cody Staggard (Kallangur).

 

It was an inter-club battle in the other semis with Zayah Morgan (Enoggera), Chloe Runge (Glasshouse) and Jack Chirgwin (Glasshouse), coming up against Bradley Flegler (Enoggera), Carl Flegler (Enoggera) and Clancy Biggar (North Dalby) and defeating them 12-11. 

In the other semi-final, Ty Jesberg, John Hammond, Jake Rynne strutted their stuff on the green and defeated Cody Staggard, Breeanna Pegg, Kira Bourke  21-6.

The Gold medal final saw Ty Jesberg, John Hammond & Jake Rynne defeat Jack Chirgwin, Chloe Runge, Zayah Morgan 25-9, while in the bronze medal final, Cody Staggard, Breeanna Pegg, Kira Bourke defeated Clancy Biggar, Carl Flegler & Bradley Flegler 20-10.
