The Over-60s State Pairs still have it!

Held at Club Helensvale today, the O60s strutted their stuff and showed us some sizzling bowls

THEY STILL GOT IT!

The Over 60’s State Pairs Finals were always going to be hotly contested affairs after some huge victories over quality opposition were posted in the semi-finals earlier today.

The experienced pairing of Brenda Thompson and Louise Witton dominated their final with Cooloola Coast’s Sue Ramsay and Pomona’s Veronis O’Connor posting a 26 to 7 victory.

Witton and Thompson, both QLD State representatives would have been a duo to fear in the Open category, both with extensive resume’s, but Thompson in particular is just happy to be back in the winners circle at this high level of competition.

This is Brenda Thompson’s first State Title since suffering a debilitating wrist injury which took her away from the game for four and half years.

In the Men’s Over 60’s final, former Australian representative Bryce Stewart and his Paradise Point club mate Allan Brough were charging home in their final after finally breaking away from their opponents to lead by eight with two ends to play.

Their opponents, Wayne Petrohilos (Edge Hill) and Kevin Deegan (South Johnstone) had travelled the furthest out of today’s finalist, all the way from Tropical Far North Queensland and had plenty of support in the crowd.

The North Queenslanders didn’t go down without a fight, grabbing a two on the penultimate end and were holding six shots until Allan Brough put a stop to that with his final bowl of the match; much to the relief of his skipper who had already played a brilliant match winning bowl in the semi-final, trailing the jack for four to get the pair over the line earlier today.

Men’s Over 60’s Pairs Final
