Calling all lawn bowlers from clubs throughout the Darling Downs Bowls Association (DDBA), nominations are now open for the annual time-honoured DDBA Open Men’s Singles, which will be contested on 12th – 13th December.

For the first time in many years, the championship will be sponsored, with $1,000 prizemoney on offer from Brad Lipp of Colliers Toowoomba and the Toowoomba Bowls Shop. The winner receives $400 plus the DDBA Trophy while runner-up will pocket $200. Losing Semi-finalist receive $100 & losing Quarter-finalists $50.

The championship is open to all club players who are affiliated members of the DDBA and entry is only $10.

Quarter Finals commence at 9.00am on Sunday 13th December at South Toowoomba Bowls Club (Club Toowoomba) and go through until the final. All games are 25 up.

Bowls has a rich history on the Downs, from the early 1900’s through to today. While not many names from the earlier times will be familiar, the likes of former Champions Les McGarry & Harold Poole in the 60’s, to Archie Kretchman in the 70’s to 3-times winner Darby Coutts in the 90’s, dual Champions Norm Wilson, Col Hall, Jason Grundon and more recent dual Champion Mark Algate 2013/14 and 2014/15 and triple-champion Jake Rynne, are all familiar names to bowls in our region, with Rynne just recently becoming the Champion of Champions from all districts in Queensland.

Nominations close on 4th December and can be made through each bowler’s club or direct to the DDBA and must be accompanied with payment.
