Australian Sides Day 4, Men Win Silver, QLD Women Best Rink

by Bowls QLD

Queensland men and women’s team have fallen agonisingly short in their final round of the series versus NSW.

In the men’s event it was a battle of the unbeaten teams with QLD taking the early lead. They maintained the break for the majority of the game with NSW finishing off stronger to sneak home in a high-quality affair. The QLD Men claimed Silver with six wins out of seven games.

Our women were leading the tournament going into the last round until NSW jumped them at the start. The QLD girls fought hard, worked their way back into the game and ended up losing by the barest of margins, which unfortunately relegated them to third overall. Congratulations to Candice Ayton, Pam Rowe, Bolivia Millerick and Kelsey Cottrell who won the best rink for the women’s event, winning all games with a margin of 85.

Well done to Kelsey Cottrell and Kane Nelson who were awarded the players of the series for the QLD Team.

Thank you to team managers Gary Costigan (with assistance from Nev Jenkins), Chrissy Pavlov and coach Jacqui Hineman. Well done to Sorrento Bowling Club on being a great host and Bowls Australia for running another great Australian Sides Championships.
