At Souths Suburban Bowls Club, Mackay

State Champion of Champion Singles sectional play is complete, and our finalists confirmed for medal rounds tomorrow.

Club Tweed’s Chloe Stewart, a former winner of the event in 2019 & 2020 advanced with two comfortable wins and a bye in section 1. Nicole Williams from Boonooroo Sandy Straits had two good wins in section 2 and was leading the third round before her opposition withdrew, giving Nicole the win and top of the section. The pair will do battle in the Gold Medal play off.

Belmont Services’ Jacob Nelson had two good wins and was cruising until Roma’s John Hammond trumped him in the last round 25-16. Jacob’s high margin from his first two victories ensured he topped the section and play for Gold.

Trent Smalley from Boyne Tannum was leading Section 2 after two rounds and the only one undefeated. Algester’s Glen Pitts had other ideas in the last round overcoming Trent 25-19 which elevated Nic Gosley into the gold medal play off and himself into the Bronze play off (1 shot margin separated Nic and Glen).

The bonus prize for each winner tomorrow will be inclusion in the 2024 Australian Champion of Champion Singles with the winners from that event advancing to the World Champion of Champions.

Finals tomorrow morning 8:30am at Souths Suburban Bowls Club.
