QLD Junior Singles Champions Crowned

Club Tweed’s Lilly Vardy has taken out the QLD Under 18 Girls Singles after defeating Tilah Mason from The Albert in a quality final. Both girls had a great tussle in the early stages of the game with the scores locked at 8 all. Lilly then dominated the remainder of the match to win by 11 shots and take home her first QLD Junior Title. South Townsville’s Ashlin Johnson claimed the Bronze Medal after winning her section and then losing to Lilly in the post sectional round.

It was an all-Algester affair in the QLD Under 18 Boys Singles Final, Todd Brain capped off a stellar week winning his third Gold Medal after overcoming club mate Trent Brehmer in a great final. After being team mates to win the Fours earlier in the week, the pair then went to battle for the coveted Singles Title. After being 10 all, Todd picked up a full count of four to gain the ascendency, he then held onto a small margin for the remainder of the game to win by 5. Burnett local Zedd Peters won the Bronze after defeating Atherton’s Andrew Lawrence by 6 shots.

With only 4 entries in the QLD Under 15 Girls Singles, Club Kawana’s Lacey Gerick went through undefeated to claim the Gold Medal. Mia Scurr from Millmerran took home Silver after winning two games while Atherton’s April Lawrence picked up the Bronze and Burnett’s Rebekah Blakely finished fourth.

Pialba’s Cooper Sutton took home his second Gold Medal for the Championships after defeating Burnett’s Jamieson Morgan in the QLD Under 15 Boys Singles Final. The boys were having a great tussle with Cooper leading narrowly at 14-11, Cooper then won 3 of the next 4 ends to win another Gold after winning the U15 Pairs earlier in the week. Ben Hagan from Club Pine Rivers jumped out of the blocks and never looked back in the Bronze play off to defeat Taylor Baart from Darra Cementco.

Burnett local Chaz Doherty had a good day on his home green defeating Laidley’s Keegan McGuire in the final of the QLD Under 12 Open Singles. Chaz led from start to finish with Keegan unable to counteract until a last-minute surge but was too late. Chaz is the son of the owners of Arcon Metals Recycling who have been a great supporter of this event over the past two years. Shae Daly from Paradise Point won the Bronze after defeating Beenleigh’s Keala Nukunuku by 7.
