QLD Para Team Win Overall Team Trophy
The Australian Para Nationals have been run and won at Broadbeach with the Queensland team claiming the Overall Best Performed State for the third year in a row. A great team effort over the four days, QLD Women: Annette Goldsworthy, Cheryl Lindfield, Louise Hoskins, Serena Bonnell; QLD Men: Tony Bonnell, Brett Sellars, Clive Williams, Cooper Whitestyles, Wesley Brown & Damien Delgado.
Serena Bonnell was awarded “Overall Best Bowler” of the Championships for the second year in a row. Serena and Damien Delgado were awarded the Queensland Players of the Series for the Para Nationals, and both claimed Gold today in their respective Singles events.
After winning Gold in the Women’s Open Pairs yesterday with Louise Hoskins, Serena then went head-to-head with Queensland teammate Cheryl Lindfield in the Women’s Open Singles Final. Trailing 13-18, Serena hit her straps to win the remaining ends to take home the Gold 21-18, with Cheryl claiming Silver. A thrilling final that could have gone either way, and a credit to both players.
Damien then took to the green in the B7/8 Men’s Singles final against defending champion Chris Flavell from South Australia. Damien went out to an early lead and maintained the pressure to win the Gold 21-10, a great display of quality bowls, just prior to a storm hitting Broadbeach.
Congratulations to our Queensland Bronze Medallists:
Brett Sellars: Men’s B5/6 Singles
Annette Goldsorthy & Cheryl Lindfield: Women’s Open Pairs
Brett Sellars & Tony Bonnell: Men’s 14 Point Pairs
Wesley Brown & Clive Williams: Open Pairs
Thank you to QLD Team Managers/Coaches Alan Thorp, Dennis O’Toole, Jacqui Hineman and carers who assisted our team, also to all the volunteers at the Broadbeach Bowls Club. Well done to all medal winners and Bowls Australia on another great Para Nationals Championships.
