Queensland Women Win Australian Sides
Congratulations to our Queensland Women’s team who have reigned supreme in the Australian Sides Championships at Club Tweed today. Needing a win in the final round against ACT, they started to gain a handy lead before a gallant fight back by ACT, our QLD girls bounced back to run away with the win and take home the Marj Morris Trophy. Well done to Amanda Haevecker, Emma Spicer, Wendy Wilson and Chloe Stewart on being the Best Performed Women’s Rink of the Championships.
Our Men’s Team needed to win their final round to claim Silver, they started well and maintained the pressure to finish in second place behind NSW.
Congratulations to Kelsey Cottrell and Aron Sherriff for being awarded the QLD Players of the Series for the Australian Sides, and to Lynsey Clarke and Brett Wilkie for being Players of the Series for the QLD vs Northern Territory Test Series.
Two players achieved milestones during the event, well done to Sean Baker who played his 200th game for QLD today, he also reached a total milestone of 300 games across QLD and NT during the Championships. Well done to Yvonne Lovelock who played her 100th game for QLD this week.
Thank you to our team coaches/managers Bill Cornehls, Christina Pavlov, Kurt Brown, Linda Morish and Brian Marshall for their support. Well done to Club Tweed staff and volunteers along with Bowls Australia for another great Australian Sides Championships.
