CLUB TWEED AND CLUB PINE RIVERS WIN 2024 STATE PENNANT TITLES
Saturday 2 & Sunday 3 November at Club Tweed
Club Tweed Women and Club Pine Rivers Men have won back-to-back State Pennant Titles after both going through the finals weekend undefeated.
Club Tweed Women did battle with 2022 Champions Club Kawana in the final and kept a small lead until the halfway mark where they started to pull away. The Kawana Women rallied for a while until Tweed put their foot down, finishing off the stronger to take the title 45-34. Lynsey Clarke’s rink proved the difference with a strong 10 shot win.
Well done to Club Kawana on being runner up, they snuck into the finals by the barest of margins after having a draw with Algester in round 3, with only percentage separating the two on the ladder.
Club Pine Rivers Men shot out of the blocks against Club Musgrave in the final to take an early lead 16-5. Musgrave tried hard to reduce the margin and came within a few shots trailing 31-34. The Pine boys then got a roll on and jumped out to a 56-39 lead thanks to Jason Carpenter’s rink opening up a big lead over Ryan Bester. Musgrave never gave up and worked back to be within six shots going into the last end, Club Pine Rivers answered the challenge to claim the title 60-55.
Well done to Club Musgrave on reaching the final, their first appearance in a State Pennant Final since winning the event in 2001.
Congratulations to all teams who qualified for the State Finals from the eight zones throughout QLD.
