Spicer and Blaszczyk Win State District Mixed Pairs
at Souths Suburban Bowls Club, Mackay
Saturday 16 November and Sunday 17 November 2024
Emma Spicer and Tom Blaszczyk have won the State District Mixed Pairs after defeating Serena Bonnell and Dennis McDonald in a nail biting final.
Spicer and Blaszczyk started the better going out to a 7-1 lead after 6 ends. Bonnell and McDonald then worked their way back to 7 all after 9 and continued the momentum to lead 14-7 after 13. Spicer and Blaszczyk then hit their straps to pick up a 6 on the 14th end to trail by 1. Bonnell and McDonald answered the challenge with a with a 3 of their own to gain a break until the teams drew level at 17 all after 18. Trailing by 2 on the last end, McDonald needed to trail the jack with his last and missed by millimetres, Spicer and Blaszczyk winning the last three ends to claim the Gold 22-17. A fantastic final down to the wire, well done to both teams.
Maranoa Warrego’s Jocelyn Haylock and John Hammond won the battle for Bronze after defeating hometown favourites Clinton Vassie and Charmayne Sleeman (Mackay) 26-12.
