Kawana Dominate State Triples
Club Kawana lineups have come away with the spoils in both Women’s and Men’s State Triples finals at Coolum Beach Bowls Club today.
In the women’s event Lacey Gerick, Debbie Dalliston and Fay Whittaker triumphed over Jo Watts, Janet Healey and Jane Bush to claim the gold medal. Trailing early at 1-6, Whittaker’s team drew level at 11 all before going out to a 20 to 12 lead, they then steadied to win the final 24-14.
Amy Wiggins, Mia Haylock and Emma Spicer took home the Bronze Medal after defeating Sheridan Gollan, Faye Clarke and Tracy Foster 23-21.
The men’s final was a rematch of skippers from the recent State Mixed Pairs Final – Jermey Henry and Kane Nelson. In a see sawing game both teams were locked at 19 all before Henry’s team of Geoff Harrison and Kurt Brown put the foot down, winning the next five ends to defeat Andrew Evans, Jacob Nelson and Kane Nelson 28-19. A second State Title in three days for Henry.
Ian Law, Gary Pearson and Gary Law scraped home in an extra end thriller to claim Bronze over Hayden Leslie, Joel Downey and Jake Rynne 19-17.
Appreciation goes to event sponsors Nic Fisher – Real Estate Agent, Sunshine Coast Council and Coolum Beach Bowls Club for their continued support of the State Championships.
