Queensland Boys Strike Gold at School Sport Australia Championships
Queensland’s fours team of Cooper Sutton, Ben Hagan, Levi Rice, and Rhys Gillman claimed gold in thrilling fashion at the School Sport Australia Championships held at Club Pine Rivers. In a tense final against Victoria, the match was tied heading into the final end. The Queensland boys held shot from the outset and expertly defended it through to the finish, securing the national title.
In the pairs, Jacob Hoger and Rhys Gillman earned a well-deserved silver medal, falling just one shot short in a nail-biting final. Trailing by five going into the last end, Gillman executed a brilliant shot to sit the needed bowl, but his own narrowly rolled a foot too far, leaving them agonisingly one shot short of a draw.
Tilah Mason came from the clouds in her singles play off, earning bronze in dramatic fashion. Trailing 10–20, she staged a sensational comeback to close the gap to 17–20 with just one end remaining. Holding one and with her final bowl, Mason trailed the jack into the ditch to hold four. Her Victorian opponent was unable to reduce the count, giving Mason a stunning 21–20 victory.
Queensland finished the event with the overall team bronze, with Victoria taking gold and New South Wales securing silver.
