Bowls Queensland Welcomes Two New Appointed Directors
Bowls Queensland is excited to welcome Serena Bonnell and Kelsey Cottrell as the newest members of its Board of Directors. Both women bring a wealth of experience on and off the green, along with a passion for growing the sport at all levels.
Serena Bonnell
A Para Jackaroo and proud Queenslander, Serena has represented Australia on the world stage, winning a Silver medal at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games and a Bronze medal at the 2023 World Championships. Beyond her achievements on the green, Serena has played a major role in developing para bowls across the Gold Coast, running monthly skills clinics, “come and try” days, and helping more people get involved in the sport.
She also serves as a Director of Bowls Gold Coast Tweed and has been active in committees overseeing selection, governance, and constitutional reform. Serena’s background as a barrister, lecturer, and senior advisor brings additional leadership skills that will support her work on the Bowls Queensland Board.
Kelsey Cottrell
One of the most recognisable names in Australian bowls, Kelsey Cottrell has been a national representative for nearly two decades and is widely regarded as one of the sport’s most accomplished players. Off the green, Kelsey is just as busy. She is the Community and Marketing Manager at Club Helensvale, where she has helped the club grow its membership and strengthen community connections.
Kelsey has also worked in communications at Bowls Australia, is a member of the World Bowls Athlete Advisory Committee, and is the founder of the Cottrell Collection clothing and accessories brand, which is now sold in bowls shops across the country.
Building for the Future
Bowls Queensland President Brian Marshall said the appointments highlight the organisation’s commitment to building a strong and diverse leadership team.
“Serena and Kelsey are fantastic role models who understand the sport from the grassroots to the international stage. Their passion, knowledge, and commitment will be a huge asset as we continue to develop the sport of bowls across Queensland.”
Bowls Queensland warmly welcomes Serena and Kelsey to the Board and looks forward to working with them to shape the future of the sport.
