Bulls & Hawks Crowned 2025 Champion of Club Champion Fours
After two days of tight contests and four hard-fought games, Broadbeach and Helensvale emerged as the 2025 Champion of Club Champion Fours winners in the women’s and men’s divisions.
Women’s Fours
The Broadbeach quartet of Bolivia Millerick (skip), Cheryl Heaps, Karen Goldsworthy and Julie Keegan showed their class throughout the event. They opened with a strong win over Paula Brun’s Blair Athol Clermont side before surviving a nail-biter against Calliope Central’s Tina Wallace, Deb Ward, Terri Ferris and Sam Lunck, edging home 21-18 in front of a lively crowd.
Momentum carried them into a decisive 20-11 victory over Jocelyn Haylock’s Roma rink, setting up a gold medal clash with Club Maroochy’s Connie-Leigh Rixon, who had guided her side of Rose Rixon, Rebecca Rixon and Marianne Kuenzle through sectionals unbeaten.
In the final, Millerick’s rink lifted again, storming to a commanding 28-12 win to secure the state title. The bronze medal went to Calliope Central, who overcame Colleen Dobson’s Albert team 25-17.
Men’s Fours
Helensvale’s team, skipped by Nathan Rice, mirrored Broadbeach’s path to success. After an opening-round win, they survived a thriller against Boonooroo-Sandy Straits (Bradley Wakefield, Michael Roy, Clive Williams and Anthony Williams), scraping through 20-19, before producing a powerful 15-shot victory over Travis Lawton’s Charleville outfit to top their section.
That set up a showdown with Club Maroochy’s Ian Bloor, John Jones, Jay Dawe and Ashley Van Winkel, who had advanced with victories over Bargara, Mt Isa and Emerald. The Helensvale four controlled the gold medal match from the outset, running out 24-11 winners. The bronze medal went to Bargara’s Cody Fehlberg, whose side proved too strong for North Toowoomba’s Luke Day, James Williams, Christopher Barrett and Gary Gray.
