Venues Announced: 2026 State Champion of Club Champions & 2026 Open State Pennant Finals
Bowls Queensland (BQ) has confirmed the host venues for two of the state’s most anticipated interclub events, the 2026 State Champion of Club Champions and the inaugural Open State Pennant Finals.
The State Champion of Club Champions will be held at North Mackay Bowls Club (Goosies Sport & Recreation Club) from 14 to 21 November 2026, with the State Pennant Finals following on 28 and 29 November 2026.
The Pennant Finals mark a significant moment for the sport in Queensland, with all three divisions now operating as Open Gender competitions. The change, backed by 75 percent of respondents in a state-wide survey conducted in late 2025, allows teams to be made up of men, women, or a mix of both, competing across three rinks of Fours over 21 ends.
Division 1 of the State Pennant Finals will be hosted by Coolum Beach Sports Club, Division 2 by Capalaba Sports Club, and Division 3 by North Mackay Bowls Club (Goosies Sport & Recreation Club), reflecting the Board’s commitment to spreading major events across regional Queensland.
Bowls Queensland Events & Competition Manager Micheal Sorrensen said the venues and format changes represented a genuine step forward for the game.
“We’re really excited about what these events represent for Queensland bowls,” Sorensen said. “Moving to an Open Gender format has opened the door for more players and more clubs to be part of the conversation at state level. Having North Mackay host both the Champion of Club Champions and the Division 3 Pennant Final is a great example of us taking the game to the regions, and we’re looking forward to seeing strong competition across all three divisions in November.”
The move to an Open Gender format comes off the back of broader structural changes to Queensland bowls, including the introduction of the Taylor Bowls State Challenge and the shift of the Queensland Premier League to later in the calendar year. That realignment created a natural opportunity for State Pennants and the Premier League to adopt a shared open format, giving every club across the state a clear pathway into pennant competition regardless of their member makeup.
