Deaf Lawn Bowls Qld sends warning Deaf Lawn Bowls Queensland is investigating what appears to be a scam directed at its Facebook “friends”.

Bowls Queensland has been told “friends” of a fake Deaf Lawn Bowls Queensland Facebook page have been asked to donate money.

One “friend”, who unwittingly signed up for the fake page, received a message asking for $3000.

“It’s dreadful
to hear about this situation and BQ has been asked to help by sending
out a warning to our bowlers,” BQ CEO Keith Fullerton said.

“Beware of this
fake page and please make further inquires before sending money, the
genuine Deaf Lawn Bowls Queensland is not asking for money via
Facebook.”

The two pages
look exactly the same at a quick glance, with the same logo, but the
genuine Deaf Lawn Bowls Queensland Facebook page has a record of photos
and events, as you’d expect.

The new “fake”
Deaf Lawn Bowls Queensland Facebook page has no entries and was set up
only in October last year (October 19, 2013).

Unfortunately,
it already has 175 “friends”, who no doubt thought they were “friending”
the real Deaf Lawn Bowls Queensland Facebook page.

It’s these friends most at risk of being asked for money via the scammers.

The matter is being investigated.
