BA need a host for 2020 BPL Cup rounds

by jgrey on June 26, 2020

After the recent break in activity due to COVID-19, Bowls Australia are about to re-launch the 2020 BPL Cup season, albeit in a condensed form.

The competition will run from late July through to the National Finals in November*.

For a short time, BA are once again seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) to be a host venue for rounds of the 2020 BPL Cup and any affiliated bowls club in Australia can apply.

To indicate your club’s interest, please complete the online EOI form below:

In re-designing this year’s competition, they have taken on board feedback from participants and host venues.

Three key changes include:

  • Earlier advice of dates for Regional and State Finals – in order to do that, BA are asking for host venues to identify their dates for Preliminary Rounds earlier as well (on dates that best suit Club calendars around other planned/rescheduled events);
  • Subject to interest from the areas in question, we will be changing the State Finals to take in those areas that are largely separated from major population centres/previous State Finals venues e.g. there could be ‘State’ Finals in both Northern QLD and in Southern QLD, one in Northern NSW and one in Sydney etc.  Winners from these ‘State’ Finals will progress directly to the National Finals at Club Pine Rivers in November* (all-expenses paid).
  • Any winners qualifying from South East QLD will be offered an all-expenses-paid trip to BPL13 at Moama in February 2021, in lieu of a trip to BPL12 – they will still get to play in the 2020 BPL Cup National Finals

In 2019, the third season of the BPL Cup, there were:

  • 84 host venues
  • 690 team entries
  • >2400 participants

16 Club teams will get a chance to play in the National Finals in November with the Grand Final televised live across Australia* (as in 2019).

Surveys conducted with host venues and participants in 2019 showed that 90% of Clubs would be willing to host again and 95% of participants would be willing to participate again.

If your Club is interested in being a host venue for the 2020 BPL Cup, please complete the EOI form via the link below: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2020BPLCupEOI.

Expressions of interest are required to be completed by 5 pm Friday 10th July.
